Cloud services and applications have played a central role in enabling organizations to remain operational during the COVID-19 lockdown. More than 80 percent of organizations report they have accelerated cloud adoption to accommodate remote work requirements.

Although the cloud delivers undeniable business benefits, it also presents significant challenges. Increased workload demands can create network bottlenecks, for example. Applications with interconnected components and specific operating system requirements can become unstable when shifted to the cloud. Cloud migrations can also make it difficult to consistently manage security policies and demonstrate compliance.

To avoid such pitfalls, organizations need to develop an overarching strategy that guides decision-making and ensures all cloud services and applications are properly aligned with your business requirements and current technology infrastructure.

Rahi Systems can help you craft an effective cloud strategy with our ELEVATE cloud services portfolio. We begin by evaluating the current state of your technology infrastructure in order to identify workloads that would benefit from cloud migration. Then we help you plan, implement and manage your cloud environment for peak efficiency.

Here are the four key steps in our ELEVATE cloud migration and implementation process:

ASSESS
A readiness assessment will identify and prioritize which applications can be easily migrated, which may need to be redesigned or replaced, and which are better off remaining in house. After an initial consultation with key stakeholders, the Rahi team will assess applications across multiple characteristics, including cloud objectives, technical feasibility and risk, to determine the proper placement of apps and data.

For a basic cloud assessment, we’ll install virtualization inventory tools for data collection and analysis, review the inventory and cost analysis for both on-premises and cloud use cases, and provide an overview of those findings and suggestions for moving forward. A premium assessment also includes a two-day workshop to collect business, financial and technical requirements from key stakeholders.

PLAN
The uncontrolled proliferation of cloud instances often results in wasted resources, unexpected costs and management complexity. Our planning process is designed to eliminate these challenges by helping teams understand how to use cloud resources effectively.
In our basic cloud plan, we identify a target workload to migrate or refactor, review requirements with stakeholders, and build a reference architecture for the new workload. We then create a project plan for migration or refactoring, along with a cost analysis report and design documentation. In our premium plan, we’ll also create maps of all application dependencies.

IMPLEMENT
Migrating mission-critical apps and workloads can be tricky. During the implementation process, we work closely with customers to ensure proper networking and firewall requirements are in place. We also work with providers to ensure they can meet essential performance characteristics such as CPU consumption, transaction processing times, or throughput.
For a migration, we test the target environment for proper migration, verify logs and metrics are sent to the customer’s remote monitoring and management (RMM) platform, and create a migration timeline. Post-migration, we provide a report that describes any remediation activities that may be required for future migrations.

MANAGE
Cloud management can be costly and time-consuming, particularly in multi-cloud and hybrid cloud environments involving multiple platforms and providers. Rahi’s managed services team can relieve you of that burden with around-the-clock monitoring and management to ensure high levels of performance and reliability.
Our basic cloud services monitoring plan features customized service-level agreements, remote monitoring from our network operations center, and an escalation plan for notifications and responses. A technical management arrangement also includes a dedicated engineer who will manage your cloud environment, serve as a primary contact for key stakeholders, and deliver weekly reports.

Conclusion
Cloud services and applications have been instrumental in supporting business operations during the ongoing pandemic, but few companies have a unified strategy for cloud usage. Through our ELEVATE cloud services portfolio, Rahi can help you right-size your cloud environment to eliminate waste and improve long-term operations.
